A Catholic apostolate for the common good.
Second Spring Media brings the depth of the Catholic intellectual and spiritual tradition into conversation with the questions, stories, and culture of our time.
The vision
We are in the midst of a Catholic renaissance.
Our name recalls St. John Henry Newman’s 1852 homily, “The Second Spring,” preached at Oscott following the restoration of the Catholic hierarchy in England. After centuries of suppression and marginalization, Newman saw the Church flowering anew: an ancient faith returning to public life with fresh vitality.
We believe we are seeing signs of another Catholic renaissance today. As people reject modernity’s promises of progress without God, freedom without obligation, and meaning without a shared inheritance, they are rediscovering the depth of Catholic theology, the beauty of worship, and a way of life rooted in faith, family, and community.
Second Spring exists to help that renewal take root in Arkansas. Through theology, cultural conversation, and local fellowship, we seek to introduce our neighbors to the fullness of the Catholic faith and help it shape the life we share.
“It is the coming in of a Second Spring; it is a restoration in the moral world.”St. John Henry Newman, “The Second Spring” (1852)

Meet the Founder
Shane Himes
Shane Himes founded Second Spring Media to share the Catholic faith in the state he calls home. He spent ten years as a Protestant pastor before entering the Catholic Church and now teaches at Sacred Heart Catholic School in Morrilton.
Shane resides in central Arkansas with his wife and three children. After eight years away, he and his wife returned home, having discovered that they could never love another place quite as they love Arkansas. Second Spring grows out of that affection and their desire to see the people and communities of this state prosper spiritually.
